Description

This is a level 2B course for those who have attended previously or who have dressmaking experience.

This comprehensive dressmaking course offers hands-on learning in a professional studio environment, focusing on pattern usage, fitting alterations, and personal design development through one-on-one tutor guidance and group discussions. The course emphasises practical skills and creative exploration, fostering both technical competency and individual expression in garment making.
Participants will create a personalised course file, including sketches, tutor handouts, and notes and produce items, while adhering to health and safety protocols outlined in the MAE ground rules.

What Will I Learn On This Course?
Learners will: 1. Demonstrate the working of at least one paper pattern 2. Identify suitable fabric to fit the purpose for at least one project 3. Assemble at least one garment in the correct order using a professional approach to garment construction Whether you would like to learn new creative skills or to investigate the possibility of a new dressmaking-based career, MAE Community Learning courses can provide you with a stepping stone to progress

Is This Course Suitable For Me?
This is a level 2B course for those who have attended previously or who have sewing and dressmaking experience. Upon completing this course, learners can progress onto Level 2C sewing courses but cannot redo this course at the same level or book onto lower-level courses (1A – 2B). Learners can book onto any other Creative & Culture course from 1A upwards.

Is There Anything Else I Need To Know About This Course?
Please be aware that whilst this course is practical in nature some sessions will include theory and professional related training such as H&S, risk assessments, public liability etc Learners will need the following tools and equipment please do not purchase until you are sure the course will run: You will need to bring on the first lesson: • Sharp dressmakers' scissors • Pins • Tape measure • Threads x 2 • Sellotape • Notebook and pen • A bobbin or 2 (available to purchase from the centre) • Marking chalk (purchased after discussion with the tutor) A sketchbook will be provided Commercial pattern and fabric (all learners will purchase these items after discussion with the tutor). Please do not purchase pattern or fabric until after the first lesson. Your tutor will speak to you in class about what you need

Will There Be Additional Costs?

Your tutor will speak to you in class about what you need The additional fabric called interfacing when needed will be ordered and purchased from the tutor. Small amounts of calico for samples will need to be purchased from the tutor

What Could I Go On To Do After This Course?
Upon completing this course, learners can progress onto Level 2C sewing courses but cannot redo this course at the same level or book onto lower-level courses (1A – 2B). Learners can book onto any other Creative & Culture course from 1A upwards. Your tutor can talk to you about another subject related course available. Your progression course is R2528A Sewing: Dressmaking Level 2C Medway Adult Education works with many partners locally such as MidKent College, Medway School of Arts and the University of Kent; information about their courses can be found in our studios, café and on Moodle. Medway has an exciting and wide-range of events, exhibitions and activities to inspire and help you make further progress - please see the community noticeboards in the Rochester Centre and again on Moodle. What Is The Attendance Policy?
Multiple sessions- To get the most out of your course you will need to attend as many sessions as possible. We recommend at least 90%. If you do have a holiday booked during term time, please let the tutor know in advance so that we can help you catch up on missed sessions and ensure that you still achieve the course outcomes. If you are unavoidably ill or unable to attend, please contact 01634 338400 so that we can let your tutor know, and so they can send you any work you may have missed
