Description
This qualification is designed to help learners develop practical mathematical skills that are applicable in everyday life, education and the workplace. If focuses on problem solving and applying mathematical thinking to real-world scenarios.
What will I learn on this course?
• Number- whole numbers, fractions, decimals, percentages and ratio
• Measure, shape and space- time, money, length, weight, area, volume and geometry
• Handling Data- tables, charts, averages and probability
• Problem solving- applying maths to everyday contexts like budgeting, shopping and planning.
Is this course suitable for me?
You need to be 19 years and over and have no GCSE 4/C or equivalent qualifications in Maths.
Before you begin your studies, an initial assessment will take place in order to help us to place you on the most suitable course.
Is there anything I need to know about the course?
This course is ideal for learners who;
• are working at Functional Skills Level 1 Maths
• want to improve their numeracy for everyday tasks
• are preparing to progress to Functional Skills Maths Level 2
• Need a gentle and supportive approach to learning

Attendance Policy
In order to get the most out of your course, you will need to attend as many sessions as possible. We recommend at least 90%. If you do have a holiday booked during term time, please let the tutor know in advance so that we can help you catch up on missed sessions and ensure that you still achieve the course outcomes. If you are unavoidably ill or unable to attend, please contact 01634 338400 so that we can let your tutor know and so they can send you any work you may have missed.
How are digital skills used and enhanced on this course
You may need to use the internet for some of your course- using a tablet, laptop or computer. The tutor will speak to you about useful websites, apps and online resources which you may be asked to use for homework.
