Description

This is an online course. There will be some time given for ‘flipped learning' towards the end of the lesson, which includes some self-study time set by your tutor. You need to use the internet for your course - using tablet or computer a mobile phone is not suitable. We will give you more information when you enrol. After enrolling, your tutor will give you instructions on how to join your course online and how to use online resources.

What will I learn on this course?
To read an authentic text (such as a newspaper or on-line article, report) and identify purpose, inference, main points, and specific detail. • To plan, draft and proofread a variety of well-structured texts (for example letters, reports articles), using appropriate register and layout. • To demonstrate accurate use of a wide variety of English vocabulary, grammatical structures, and tenses. • To use punctuation and spelling appropriate to the level.

Is this course suitable for me?
This course is for learners who have achieved or have been assessed at ESOL Level 1 and are working towards Level 2. If you attend well and pass all your level 2 exams, you can enrol onto any course which requires a level 2 qualification. Is there anything I need to know about the course?
You must be confident using a computer / tablet and the internet. • You must practise outside the class extensively, to develop your skills. • You will need to spend at least two hours a week on homework. • It is essential to your success that you attend all lessons. • Your teacher will give you constructive and regular feedback to support your learning.

Will there be additional costs?
This course is free if you meet the funding criteria, i.e you are on a recognised benefit or earning less that £25,000 per annum. You will be required to pay if you do not meet the funding criteria. You must bring to class: • A ring binder folder • An A5 notebook to write in • A pen and pencil.

What could I go on to do after this course?
From the start of the course, you will work towards targets and have regular assessments and reviews of learning. You will prepare to sit an exam in one or more skills at Level 2. When you have passed all exams at Level 2, if you wish to study further you can apply for any course that requires Level 2 English language skills. Attendance Policy
You must complete all homework set and attend class for at least 85% of the time so that you can progress and sit exams. If you are ill or unable to attend, please contact our Absence Line 01634 338416 so that we can let your tutor know, and so they can send you any work you may have missed. Please do not book a holiday during term time.

How are IT/Digital skills used and enhanced on this course?
You need to use the internet your course - using a tablet or computer. The tutor will speak to you about useful websites, apps, and online resources which you may be asked to use for homework.
