Description

This is an online course. There will be some time given for ‘flipped learning' towards the end of the lesson, which includes some self-study time set by your tutor. You need to use the internet for your course - using a tablet or computer. This is a qualification course and from the start you will be preparing for an exam. We will give you more information when you enrol. After enrolling, your tutor will give you instructions on how to join your course online and how to use online resources.

Please note: You will need to phone 01634 338400 to book an initial assessment or apply online at Medway Adult Education. Online enrolment is not available for this course.

It may be necessary to temporarily move your course online if the centre needs to close due to bad weather, or other unexpected events.
  

What will I learn on this course?
• To develop your vocabulary, reading strategies and knowledge of English so that you can read and understand a variety of texts. • To identify the purpose of different types of texts (for example descriptive, narrative, informative). • To increase your accuracy in spelling, punctuation and grammar. • To write different types of text (for example letters or narratives) using the appropriate style of English.

Is this course suitable for me?
This course is for learners who have achieved ESOL Entry 2 reading and writing or have been assessed as Entry 3. You will be working towards an exam with the support of your tutor. You will need to phone 01634 338400 to book an initial assessment or apply online at Medway Adult Education.

Is there anything I need to know about the course?
You will need to be confident in using a computer / tablet and the internet. • You must practise English outside the classroom and spend at least 1 hour a week on homework. • We expect you to attend all lessons so that you make progress. • Your teacher will give you regular and helpful feedback to help you learn.

Will there be additional costs?
This course is free if you meet the funding criteria, i.e you are on a recognised benefit or earning less that £25,000 per annum. You will be required to pay if you don’t meet the funding criteria. You will need • A ring binder folder • An A5 notebook to write in • A pen and pencil.

What could I go on to do after this course?
From the start of the course, you will work towards targets and have regular assessments and reviews of learning. You will prepare to sit exams in reading and/or writing at Entry 3. Your teacher will help decide which exams you are ready for. When you have passed all exams at Entry 3 you can move to a higher level. Attendance Policy
You must complete all homework set and attend class for at least 85% of the time so that you can progress and sit exams. If you are ill or unable to attend, please contact our Absence Line 01634 338416, so that we can let your tutor know, and so they can give you any work you may have missed. Please do not book a holiday during term time.

How are digital skills used and enhanced on this course
You may have the opportunity to use computers with internet access in class time. You may need to use the internet for some of your course - using a mobile phone, tablet, or computer. The tutor will speak to you about useful websites, apps and online resources which you may be asked to use for homework.

E-Learning Etiquette
This course is online please make sure you and everyone at home are fully dressed when you are joining classes, and that no personal information (address, bank details) can be seen.
