Description

This is an Art Specialism course level 2A for those with some Calligraphy or Art & Design experience.

This course is designed for beginners and those with some experience in calligraphy, focusing on techniques using double pencils, flat brushes, automatic pens, and round hand nibs. Participants will explore and refine Round Hand and Cursive scripts while experimenting with colour, layout, and design. For those with prior experience, the course offers opportunities to strengthen specific skills and confidence in their practice. By the end, everyone will have a portfolio showcasing their creative ideas and improved lettering abilities.

This is an Art Specialism course level 2A, upon completing this course, learners can progress onto Level 2B or 2C but cannot redo this course at the same level or book onto lower-level courses or go back to Drawing & Painting courses. Learners can book onto any other Art specialism or Creative & Culture courses from 1A upwards.

What Will I Learn On This Course?
Learners will: 1. Demonstrate at least one piece of writing using double pencils 2. Demonstrate at least one piece of writing using a flat brush 3. Demonstrate at least one piece of writing using Automatic and Round Hand pens Learners will be encouraged to either produce a layout and a finished piece of calligraphy or concentrate on developing a particular script Whether you would like to learn new creative skills or to investigate the possibility of a new art-based career, MAE Community Learning courses can provide you with a stepping stone to progress

Is This Course Suitable For Me?
Suitable for all abilities Calligraphy is a very precise and beautiful art form, therefore maintaining a sketchbook, notes and a portfolio of work is extremely important to help you to keep a record of your development. Those who have already done some calligraphy please do bring examples of your work.

Is There Anything Else I Need To Know About This Course?
Please be aware that whilst this course is practical in nature some sessions will include theory and professional related training such as H&S, risk assessments, public liability etc Learners will need the following tools and equipment please do not purchase until you are sure the course will run: • 3 HB pencils • Roll of masking tape • A3 pad of cartridge paper or individual sheets (The Works in Chatham have an inexpensive range of paper sketch books) • 12” ruler (or longer) • Winsor & Newton or Daler Rowney putty rubber

Will There Be Additional Costs?
You will be provided with a basic sketch book. You tutor can guide you on materials and tools as the course progresses.

What Could I Go On To Do After This Course?
This is an Art Specialism course level 2A, upon completing this course, learners can progress onto Level 2B or 2C but cannot redo this course at the same level or book onto lower-level courses or go back to Drawing & Painting courses. Learners can book onto any other Art specialism or Creative & Culture courses from 1A upwards. Your tutor can talk to you about other subject related course available. What Is The Attendance Policy?
Multiple sessions- To get the most out of your course you will need to attend as many sessions as possible. We recommend at least 90%. If you do have a holiday booked during term time, please let the tutor know in advance so that we can help you catch up on missed sessions and ensure that you still achieve the course outcomes. If you are unavoidably ill or unable to attend, please contact 01634 338400 so that we can let your tutor know, and so they can send you any work you may have missed
