Description


Whether you would like to learn new creative skills or to investigate the possibility of a new textile-based career, MAE Community Learning courses can provide you with a stepping stone to progress.

For beginners or those wishing to feel a little more confident about inserting zips, and how to choose the correct zip for a project.
Join us for this relaxed workshop, where you will learn how to insert a zip, and a little about the different types of zips available.
Join us in our fabulous sewing studio for this friendly class where we will explore the humble zip and learn some techniques along the way for a more professional finish and build confidence in its use.

Please do not buy tools and equipment until you know that the course will run.
  

What will I learn on this course?
Learners will: 1. Look at and identify the different types of zips. 2. Insert at least one zip into fabric. 3. Understand the different feet available for zip insertion and demonstrate the use.

Is this course suitable for me?
Suitable for complete beginners or those who have rusty skills and need a refresher course

Is there anything I need to know about the course?
Learners will need the following tools and equipment PLEASE DO NOT PURCHASE UNTIL YOU KNOW YOUR COURSE WILL RUN You will need to prepare the following tools and equipment before the start of the course: A basic sewing kit including dressmaking scissors, un-picker, tape measure, small scissors or snips, some sewing threads etc. You WILL need some scraps of fabric to practice techniques on, please bring a selection of scraps that are a reasonable size (maybe the size of standard pieces of paper or larger). Cottons or poly/cottons preferred.

Will there be additional costs?
You will need to buy a zip or two from your tutor on the day – please bring a couple of pounds maximum. (some change would be appreciated).

Attendance Policy
This is one session course- please attend for the duration of the lesson. If you enrol and then cannot attend please inform us as soon as possible so that your place can be given to someone else.

How are digital skills used and enhanced on this course
Information technology may be used to introduce skills, techniques, and the work of other artists along with safe internet usage. Whilst you do not need any IT skills to enrol on this course, please do speak to the tutor if this is an area you would like to explore.
