Description

Whether you would like to learn new creative skills or to investigate the possibility of a new textile-based career, MAE Community Learning courses can provide you with a stepping stone to progress.

This is a three-day course, running on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday that could benefit learners of all levels with sewing skills wishing to improve and produce a professionally made garment.

You will observe appropriate Health & Safety requirements for the dressmaking studio as set out in the MAE ground rules/ learner contract.  

What will I learn on this course?
Learners will: 1.. Demonstrate the workings of at least one pattern for one project. 2. Choose fabric to fit the purpose of the project 3. Identify personal fitting alterations and assemble the project using a professional approach to garment construction

Is this course suitable for me?
This course is for learners aged 19+ some sewing and machine skills would be helpful beginners could join and would work on a simple garment all patterns and fabrics for the workshop can be purchased after discussion with the tutor.

Is there anything I need to know about the course?
The learner will bring on the first day:- - Sharp dressmakers' scissors - Pins - Tape measure - Threads x 2 - Sellotape - Notebook and pen - A bobbin or 2 - Marking chalk (purchased after discussion with the tutor) - Commercial pattern and fabric (all learners will purchase these items after discussion with the tutor).

Will there be additional costs?
During the course there will be additional cost of interfacing where needed purchased from the tutor.

Your tutor can talk to you about other subject related courses available. Attendance Policy
In order to get the most out of your course you will need to attend as many sessions as possible. We recommend at least 85%. If you do have a holiday booked during term time please let the tutor know in advance so that we can help you catch up on missed sessions and ensure that you still achieve the course outcomes. If you are unavoidably ill or unable to attend, please contact 01634 338400 so that we can let your tutor know, and so they can send you any work you may have missed

How are digital skills used and enhanced on this course
Information technology may be used to introduce skills, techniques, and the work of other artists along with safe internet usage. Whilst you do not need any IT skills to enrol on this course, please do speak to the tutor if this is an area you would like to explore.
