Course Information Sheet

Description

Whether you would like to learn new creative skills or to look into the possibility of a new art-based career, MAE Community Learning courses can provide you with a stepping stone to progress.

The course aims to develop your confidence and creativity through working on a broad variety of subjects and themes, personal and set, using a wide range of media. Learners will look at important artists and movements in art to understand both historical and contemporary artists and borrow appropriate techniques and motives to aid their own works. You will develop skills and confidence in drawing through careful observation and rendering. Explore tones and types of paper: including watercolour paper, white cartridge paper and various tones of coloured paper to support your work. Incorporate relevant mathematical skills as part of the course through studying pencil measuring, proportion, shapes, geometrical forms, patterns, balance and symmetry.

Frequent reference will be made to contemporary and historical drawings and paintings, presenting a wide range of approaches and expression. Each session is carefully structured and timed to enable learners to reflect and respond in more personal ways to their own projects as well as group assignments. Participants will leave the course with some great drawings and paintings as well as improved knowledge, skill and understanding. Note that each learner will be set specific targets based on the above and their individual starting point.
