Description
Whether you would like to learn new creative skills or to look into the possibility of a new craft-based career, MAE Community Learning courses can provide you with a stepping stone to progress.
The course will incorporate the use of double pencils, flat brush, Automatic pens, and Round Hand nibs, looking at and developing the Round Hand and Cursive scripts, working with colour, simple layouts and design. Those who have done some calligraphy can pick up on areas in which they feel less confident.
All work contributes to a portfolio of ideas and letter practice, developing a good hand.
What will I learn on this course?
You will be introduced to or further develop your Round Hand, Cursive scripts in relation to the application of colour, design and presentation.
Learners will:
1. Write using double pencils and a flat brush
2. Write using Automatic and Round Hand pens
3. Produce a layout and a finished piece of calligraphy developing a particular script.
Is there anything else I need to know about the course?
Calligraphy is a very precise and beautiful art form, therefore maintaining a sketchbook, notes and a portfolio of work is extremely important to help you to keep a record of your development. Those who have already done some calligraphy please do bring examples of your work.
What do I need to bring?
You will need to bring:
- three HB pencils
- masking tape
- A3 pad of cartridge paper or individual sheets (The Works in Chatham have an inexpensive range of paper sketch books)
- 12in ruler (or longer)
- Winsor & Newton or Daler Rowney putty rubber
- a craft knife or a scalpel with 10A blade
- a ‘T’ and ‘Set’ Square.
All these materials can be bought at Hobby Craft, Online at Seawhite, The Range or any other good art shop.
Those who already have done some calligraphy, please bring your work box.
As the course progresses you will be advised on what to buy at the appropriate stages.
