Description

This is a level 1A sewing specialism course.

Join us for this where you will learn how to make a pattern of a favourite garment.
This enjoyable class will cover the planning, laying out, measuring, cutting, making a paper pattern and a possible toile of part of the garment taken from an existing item.

During the course, you'll also learn some tricks of the trade to help with achieving a more professional finish and faster project completion.

You will need to bring the item that you would like to clone; it will not be taken apart or cut up during the course.

WHAT WILL I LEARN ON THIS COURSE?
Learners will: 1. Learn the basics of making a paper pattern from a garment 2. Complete a paper pattern copy of one garment 3. Learn at least one new technique to give a professional finish Whether you would like to learn new creative skills or to investigate the possibility of a new sewing-based career, MAE Community Learning courses can provide you with a stepping stone to progress

IS THIS COURSE SUITABLE FOR ME?
This is a level 1A sewing specialism course for learners who have completed sewing level 1A – 2C or those wishing to begin pattern making. Upon completing this course, you cannot book onto a lower levelled sewing course (1A). Suitable for those with some sewing experience or those who wish to refresh their pattern making and cutting skills

IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE I NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THIS COURSE?
Please be aware that whilst this course is practical in nature some sessions will include theory and professional related training such as H&S, risk assessments, public liability etc Learners will need the following tools and equipment please do not purchase until you are sure the course will run: You will need to prepare the following tools and equipment before the start of the course: • A basic sewing kit including dressmaking scissors, un-picker, tape measure, notebook, small scissors or snips, some sewing threads etc. • Pen & Pencil (you will be provided with a sketchbook). • You WILL need some scraps of fabric to practice techniques on, and it is always a good idea to have an old (CLEAN) sheet or duvet cover to use as practice fabric when we come to make a toile.

WILL THERE BE ADDITIONAL COSTS?
You may need to buy fabric, please do not do so until you have spoken to your tutor in week 1.
