Drawing & Painting 2 Rochester Institute of Creative Arts (RICA)
This creative provision is being marketed as RICA (Rochester Institute of Creative Arts).
RICA is the name of the new creative offer from Medway Adult Education. This taught drawing and painting course is designed for learners who have completed a Level 2C course in the drawing and painting and wish to further develop their skills, confidence, and personal style whilst still learning within a structured art environment. While it builds on prior Level 2C study, new learners are welcome to join at their own discretion.
This drawing and painting class is taught by a professional tutor; the course provides tuition and guidance alongside opportunities for creative exploration and project-based learning in a supportive environment. Your tutor will discuss personal goals and project ideas with you in your first session.
Please note that this is not a drop-in course or an informal club; regular attendance and commitment to the course are expected to support progression.

WHAT WILL I LEARN ON THIS COURSE?
Learners will:
1. Identify how women have influenced artistic expression across different times and cultures from at least 2 different artists
2. Experiment with painting techniques including watercolour to produce at least 2 experiments / responses
3. Create at least 1 personal response to the subject matter

IS THIS COURSE SUITABLE FOR ME?
This course is open to all and requires no prior art knowledge. It is especially suitable for those who enjoy talking about and exploring art and art history as well as those who want to explore themes or women in art, mindfulness, or gentle creative exploration.
WILL THERE BE ADDITIONAL COSTS?
Learners will need the following tools and equipment please do not purchase until you are sure the course will run:
You will need to prepare the following tools and for the first session:
HB/2B pencil and sharpener
A kneaded putty eraser / eraser
An A4 or A3 sketchbook
Your tutor will advise you what to buy after the first session, so you dont spend more than needed
You will need to bring your own materials (after the first session)
Some items (like paper) may be available to buy at the centre at a lower cost
There is no storage available for learners, kit will need to be taken home each week.
