Description

This 32-week course is designed to support adult learners to develop practical English skills for everyday life, work and further education. It focuses on reading, writing, speaking and listening in real-world contexts and is ideal for those who want to improve their literacy to progress to Level 2 English. As part of the course, learners will be studying towards a Level 1 or Level 2 Functional Skills English qualification.
  

What will I learn on this course?
• Reading- understand and interpret a range of texts including emails, articles and instructions • Writing – produce clear, structured writing for different purposes for example; letters, reports and forms • Speaking and listening- take part in discussions, give presentations and respond appropriately in conversations • Grammar and punctuation- using correct spelling, punctuation and sentence structure • Workplace English- communicate effectively in professional settings

Is this course suitable for me?
This course is fully funded for eligible learners. To qualify, you must be aged 19 or over and not already hold a GCSE English grade 4/C (or above), or an equivalent qualification. Before starting the course, you will complete an initial assessment. This helps us identify your current skill level and ensures that you are placed on the most appropriate course to support your learning and success.

Is there anything I need to know about the course?
This course is ideal for learners who; • are working towards a level 1 standard • want to improve their literacy for everyday tasks • are preparing to progress to Functional Skills English Level 2 • Need a gentle and supportive approach to learning

Will there be additional costs?
No additional costs. All materials will be provided. To support your progression, your tutor may recommend study support materials, which are not provided as part of the course.

What could I go on to do after this course?
Your tutor can talk to you about other subject related courses and progression routes available, including Functional Skills English Level 2, which are run through MAE. If you need further advice, please telephone 01634 338400 Medway Adult Education works with many partners locally such as UCA and the University of Kent. Information about their courses can be found in our centres, cafe and Moodle.

Attendance Policy
To get the most out of your course, you will need to attend as many sessions as possible. We recommend at least 90%. If you do have a holiday booked during term time, please let the tutor know in advance so that we can help you catch up on missed sessions and ensure that you still achieve the course outcomes. If you are unavoidably ill or unable to attend, please contact 01634 338400 so that we can let your tutor know and so they can send you any work you may have missed

How are digital skills used and enhanced on this course
You may need to use the internet for some of your course- using a tablet, laptop or computer. The tutor will speak to you about useful websites, apps and online resources which you may be asked to use for homework.
