Description

Whether you would like to learn new creative skills or to look into the possibility of a new art-based career, MAE Community Learning courses can provide you with a stepping stone to progress.

This course is suitable for all learners who have a keen interest in art appreciation.
Learners will consider a wide range of issues that underpin the visual arts and will critically assess and explore pivotal concepts, movements, and artistic developments under the theme of "Art and Technology."

Learners will participate in focused practical activities related to the genre, technique or artist being studied to aid a greater understanding and appreciation of the work. You will nvestigate the relationship between art and technological advancements and discuss how new media, digital art, and the use of technology in traditional art forms are transforming the art world.

  

What will I learn on this course?
Learners will: 1. Gain an understanding of Art and Technology. 2. Analyse at least 2 representations of Art and Technology. 3. Explore at least 2 artistic techniques inspired by Art and Technology. Learners will also: Engage in at least two practical activities inspired by Art and Technology such as works from movements like digital art, video art, and interactive installations by artists like Nam June Paik, Jenny Holzer, and Rafael Lozano-Hemmer.

This course in an excellent starting point for beginners who want to explore art appreciation as well as those with more confidence.

Will there be additional costs?
A pack of tools and materials will be provided as part of the course. Learners may wish to bring their own tools and materials to classes but please do not purchase any until after the first session and discussions with your tutor.

Attendance Policy
In order to get the most out of your course you will need to attend as many sessions as possible. We recommend at least 85%. If you do have a holiday booked during term time, please let the tutor know in advance so that we can help you catch up on missed sessions and ensure that you still achieve the course outcomes. If you are unavoidably ill or unable to attend, please contact 01634 338400 so that we can let your tutor know, and so they can send you any work you may have missed.

How are digital skills used and enhanced on this course
Information technology may be used to introduce skills, techniques, and the work of other artists along with safe internet usage. Whilst you do not need any IT skills to enrol on this course, please do speak to the tutor if this is an area you would like to explore.
