Description

–. This is a mixed level course, aimed at helping you develop English skills, leading to a nationally recognised qualification. It focuses on reading, writing, speaking and listening in real-world contexts and is ideal for those who want to improve their literacy to progress to GCSE or Level 2 English.  

What will I learn on this course?
• Reading- understand and interpret a range of texts including emails, articles and instructions • Writing – produce clear, structured writing for different purposes for example; letters, reports and forms • Speaking and listening- take part in discussions, give presentations and respond appropriately in conversations • Grammar and punctuation- using correct spelling, punctuation and sentence structure • Workplace English- communicate effectively in professional settings

Is this course suitable for me?
You need to be 19 years and over and have no GCSE 4/C or equivalent qualifications in English. Before you begin your studies, an initial assessment will take place in order to help us to place you on the most suitable course.

Will there be additional costs?
No additional costs. All materials will be provided.

What could I go on to do after this course?
Your tutor can talk to you about other subject related courses and progression routes available, including Functional Skills English Level 2 or GCSE English, which are run through MAE. Information about their courses can be found in our centres, cafe and Moodle.

Attendance Policy
In order to get the most out of your course, you will need to attend as many sessions as possible. We recommend at least 90%. If you do have a holiday booked during term time, please let the tutor know in advance so that we can help you catch up on missed sessions and ensure that you still achieve the course outcomes. If you are unavoidably ill or unable to attend, please contact 01634 338400 so that we can let your tutor know and so they can send you any work you may have missed

How are digital skills used and enhanced on this course
You may need to use the internet for some of your course- using a tablet, laptop or computer. The tutor will speak to you about useful websites, apps and online resources which you may be asked to use for homework.
