Description
Whether you would like to learn new creative skills or to look into the possibility of a new art-based career, MAE Community Learning courses can provide you with a stepping stone to progress.
This course is suitable for all learners who have a keen interest in art appreciation.
Learners will consider a wide range of issues that underpin the visual arts and will critically assess and explore pivotal concepts, movements, and artistic developments under the theme of "art and identity." Topics can include self-portraits, gender representation, race and ethnicity, and the influence of cultural heritage.
Learners will participate in focused practical activities related to the genre, technique or artist being studied to aid a greater understanding and appreciation of the work.
What will I learn on this course?
Learners will:
1. Explore how at least 2 artists express personal, cultural, and social identities through their work.
2. Analyse at least 2 representations of Art and Identity.
3. Explore at least 2 artistic techniques inspired by Art and Identity.
Learners will also:
Engage in at least two practical activities inspired by various movements and artists who focus on identity, such as Frida Kahlo, Cindy Sherman, and Kehinde Wiley.

Will there be additional costs?
A pack of tools and materials will be provided as part of the course.
Learners may wish to bring their own tools and materials to classes but please do not purchase any until after the first session and discussions with your tutor.

In order to get the most out of your course you will need to attend as many sessions as possible. We recommend at least 85%. If you do have a holiday booked during term time, please let the tutor know in advance so that we can help you catch up on missed sessions and ensure that you still achieve the course outcomes. If you are unavoidably ill or unable to attend, please contact 01634 338400 so that we can let your tutor know, and so they can send you any work you may have missed.
