Description
This course aims to improve your knowledge and confidence to access medical information and GP or NHS systems.
Note: Please ensure you know your email address and password. You will be required to log onto your email account on the computer as part of the course. Please also bring your mobile phone with you.
What Will I Learn On This Course?
Learners will:
1. Use the Internet to search for health information on a computer/laptop and on your phones, and option to download helpful apps.
2. Use the NHS website to find services: GP, dentist local to you and to use its help pages for medical symptoms and medication.
3. Use your GP’s contact system (eConsult or Anima), to ask for advice or request an appointment.
4. Understand how to create an NHS account and its usefulness.
5. Use your NHS account or app to order repeat prescriptions and look at test results (optional).
Is This Course Suitable For Me?
This course is helpful to those seeking health information, and it is useful if you have some experience of using a computer or smart phone.
To create an NHS account you will need a valid Passport, UK photo driving licence, or other official form of ID, and your NHS number. Help will be given during the second lesson if you wish to do this.
A good standard of spoken and written English is required and it is essential to be able to follow and understand verbal and written instructions
Is There Anything Else I Need To Know About This Course?
Please bring a pen and notebook to make personal study notes. An A4 ring binder to keep handouts in will also be useful. You can practise on the computers in the library at no cost.

If you complete this course successfully, you could enrol onto another free course, e.g. Microsoft PowerPoint (presentations), Microsoft Outlook (emails) or our free qualification course, e.g. Entry level 3 Award in Essential Digital Skills for Work and Life or Level 1 Award in Essential Digital Skills for Work and Life qualification course. You could also enrol onto the Entry 3 Customer Service or Level 1 Business Administration course.

If you do have a holiday booked during term time, please let the tutor know in advance so that we can help you catch up on missed sessions and ensure that you still achieve the course outcomes. How are IT/Digital skills used and enhanced on this course?
You will develop your ability to use the internet and your keyboard and mouse skills. You will also develop your research skills using a search engine to source and store images and information.
