Description

This is a Level 1 course aimed at beginners with a keen interest in the subject.
In our specialist studio you will be taught approaches to drawing and painting including observational and expressive skills and methods of research using visual language such as tone, mark making spatial systems and colour theory. You will develop your creative and reflective skills through projects and tutorials, evolving your interests and direction as an artist.

What will I learn on this course?
1. Use at least 2 different measuring skills to get accurate proportions in at least one piece. 2. Incorporate at least 2 objects into figure drawings in at least one piece. 3. Create at least 2 works using different media from pencil, charcoal, pen, crayon, ink and wash.

Is this course suitable for me?
This is a Level 1 course aimed at beginners with a keen interest in the subject (who do not hold a level 1 or above in an Art & design subject). A minimum level of E3 Functional Skills in English is required for this course. Basic IT skills would be beneficial but not essential. If you earn less than £25K and do not hold a L2 Art Qualification you may be eligible for concessionary rates or be able to access the course free of charge

Is there anything else I need to know about the course?
You will need to attend an IAG session before enrolling onto this course.

Will there be additional costs?
•You will be provided with a sketch book and materials to use within the sessions. You will need a basic art kit to continue working outside of class: • HB pencil Rubber • Sharpener Your tutor will speak to you about other materials as the course progresses. Please do not purchase any equipment until you know that the course will run.

What could I go on to do after this course?
This course will enable learners to build a portfolio of work to progress onto our BTEC level 2 Diploma in Art & Design Skills or to consider setting up as a sole trader artist via our Creative Business Courses. Medway Adult Education works with many partners locally such as MidKent College and the University of Kent; information about their courses can be found in our studios, café and on Moodle. Attendance Policy
In order to get the most out of your course you will need to attend as many sessions as possible. We recommend at least 90%. If you do have a holiday booked during term time please let the tutor know in advance so that we can help you catch up on missed sessions and ensure that you still achieve the course outcomes. If you are unavoidably ill or unable to attend please contact 01634 338400 so that we can let your tutor know, and so they can send you any work you may have missed

How are digital skills used and enhanced on this course
Basic IT skills would be beneficial but not essential as learners will be guided through digital elements such as photographing work, uploading and creating a digital portfolio.
