Description
This is a level 1A course Art Specialism course for beginners for those who have completed Drawing & Painting 2C.
This course offers an engaging introduction to acrylic painting for those new to the medium or looking to refresh their existing skills. Learners will experiment with a range of tools, materials and basic techniques, guided by an experienced tutor. The course covers key areas such as colour mixing, brushwork and simple composition, helping learners to create a variety of artwork, including still life, landscape and/or abstract pieces. With practical demonstrations and supportive feedback, you'll gradually build confidence and begin to develop your own creative approach to acrylic painting.
This is an Art Specialism course level 1A, upon completing this course, learners can progress onto Level 1B but cannot redo this course at the same level or lower-level courses or go back onto general Drawing & painting classes. Learners can book onto any other Art specialism or Creative & Culture courses from 1A upwards.

What Will I Learn On This Course?
By the end of the course, learners will:
1. Develop drawing skills using at least two techniques, such as observational accuracy, applying light and shadow, perspective, proportion and scale or improving line quality and composition.
2. Improve painting skills by working confidently with acrylic paints and related media, exploring techniques such as colour mixing, blending, layering, and texture creation.
3. Produce at least two original pieces of artwork that demonstrate the effective use of the drawing and painting skills learned during the course.

Is This Course Suitable For Me?
This course is ideal for beginners and those with some experience in drawing and painting who wish to develop their skills in acrylic painting. It offers the opportunity to explore materials and techniques, build confidence, and produce original artwork while refining your personal style.
Is There Anything Else I Need To Know About This Course?
Please be aware that whilst this course is practical in nature some sessions will include theory and professional related training such as H&S, risk assessments, public liability etc.
Learners will need the following tools and equipment please do not purchase until you are sure the course will run:
You will need to prepare the following tools and equipment before the start of the course:
• A set of acrylic paints (primary colours plus black and white recommended to start)
• A variety of brushes suitable for acrylic painting (different shapes and sizes, including flat, round, and filbert brushes)
• A palette for mixing colours (A tear-off stay-wet palette is recommended)
• Palette knives for mixing and creating texture effects
• Canvas boards, stretched canvases or acrylic painting paper
• A water container and cloths or paper towels for cleaning brushes
• An apron or old clothing to protect against spills
Additional materials may be recommended as the course progresses, and your tutor will advise you before making further purchases.
Will There Be Additional Costs?
Learners are expected to provide their own materials for most activities; however, easels and drawing boards will be available for use. A list of required materials will be shared at appropriate stages of the course. Please consult with the tutor before making significant purchases.
What Could I Go On To Do After This Course?
This is an Art Specialism course level 1A, upon completing this course, learners can progress onto Level 1B but cannot redo this course at the same level or lower-level courses or go back onto general Drawing & painting classes. What Is The Attendance Policy?
Multiple sessions-
To get the most out of your course you will need to attend as many sessions as possible. We recommend at least 90%. If you do have a holiday booked during term time, please let the tutor know in advance so that we can help you catch up on missed sessions and ensure that you still achieve the course outcomes. If you are unavoidably ill or unable to attend, please contact 01634 338400 so that we can let your tutor know, and so they can send you any work you may have missed
